The DDS Oral Health Strategic Plan 2011/15 aims to transform the DDS into an oral health promoting organisation where the objective is to control and prevent disease and, as a result, decrease the need for future treatment.

The annual national No Smoking Day was held on 14 March 2012. As part of every day business, DDS personnel note the smoking status of patients and carry out brief intervention when indicated during patient’s dental appointments. The No Smoking Day event is used to try to encourage smokers to quit on that day with approximately three quarters of a million people making a quit attempt each No Smoking Day.
